Despite being located in a modern facility in Sault Ste. Marie's industrial park our roots can be traced back a century. In 1998 the company purchased Northern Fluid Power, building new office space and moving it to the Soo Foundry location. In 1984 Soo Foundry's subsidiary Traders Steel Warehouse began operations. In 1982 the company moved to it's new location with the coincidental passing of Jack Cohen, Robert took over as president. In 1958 the company was bought by brothers Wilfred and Jack Cohen, who at the time we're involved in the scrap metal business supplying cast iron to the foundry, Throughout the 60's and 70's the foundry provided a variety of products most notably man hole covers still found today all throughout Sault Ste. Marie. In 1977 the foundry was closed In 1980 the company was reorganized with Wilfred Cohen retiring from the business. Northern Foundry's main products were ship repairs and mining equipment. Before the days when fill was brought in to widen the waterfront, ships would pull up to the rear of the machine shop/foundry. Prior to being called Soo Foundry we began under the name Northern Foundry, Northern Foundry was located on Sault Ste. Marie's waterfront. In 2005 the Company expanded their capabilities in CNC Machining, CNC Plate Burning, and Field Machining.
